Welcome to ‘The Diamond Dragonfly’,

In the very late 50’s and early 60’s I walked a mile from our house in Osgoode out to “The Lighthouse” on the Rideau River. That was my summer job, cleaning, cooking and lifeguarding. It was a very popular swimming spot and gathering venue. Friday and Saturday nights there were dances in the Pavilion. It had beautiful hardwood floors and shutters that opened out to allow the river breezes and beauty of the moon and stars shining on the river to be enjoyed by all.

During the week the Jukebox blared out all the wonderful Rock and Roll hit songs as long as their money lasted. It was a fun time for the swimmers. I was peeling potatoes, making French fries, hot dogs, dishing out ice cream cones and cold drinks from the cooler. These were glass bottles in cold water. One cold drink out, one warm drink in, then back to peeling potatoes and cutting them.

I did get to enjoy the music and Palisades Park was high on my list. I just had to share this YouTube with you because when I saw the ferris wheel stamp I was right bak at the LightHouse. Listen to this one.

Such happy memories I have of working for Vera Boyd. It never occurred to me everyone else was having fun and I was working. I have always been thankful for what was given me. Thanks be to God!
